The Role that Water Plays in Your Swimming Pool

The Role that Water Plays in Your Swimming Pool

The common action that people with swimming do is to drain their swimming pool when winter or colder season arrives. Even before the winter comes they already let the water in their pool evaporate before eventually draining all the water. So, the result would be, refilling their pool once again once summer hits.

If you are presently thinking about building or installing a pool in your backyard you have to think about a lot of things particularly with the kind of water that you will use for your swimming pool. Yes, but, what about the water?

Maybe there are times that your mind is clouding with questions like is tap water alright to use in filing the swimming pool? You know that is okay to use tap water in washing your hands, taking a bath, washing the dishes, and so on and so forth. But is it acceptable to use tap water as your pool water? Probably, you may want to start answering the questions by reading this article about kinds of water.

The First Type of Water is Hard Water

If you have hard water for your pool this means your water contains a high level of minerals. Such kinds of minerals are magnesium and calcium which can leave a scaling effect in your swimming pool. Scaling is common in hard water and the process of scaling takes place when deposits of calcium are discharged from the water.

Calcium deposits may also come from a thin white powdery scale of your pool pipes and pool wall which contributes in making your skin dry as you swim. Too much content calcium content in the water is not good especially if the water gets warm through your heater because calcium happens to be soluble. And when calcium is soluble your heater tends to function harder.

The Second Type is Called Soft Water

Soft water is the complete of opposite of hard water since it has lower levels of calcium and magnesium. If your water is soft water this means it has lesser mineral content and the pH levels is low or in other words, acidic.

If this is the case, the acidic water attempts to maintain a balance by acquiring more calcium from its environment. The source of calcium can be your plaster or the concrete found in your pool. If this happens this will result in pitting. Apart from that, soft water which is acidic water contributes in damaging any metal parts found in your pool.
The Metals Found in Your Water
Your water could have more metal content. This is possible if your pool water comes from a well. The metal contents which is present in well water are copper an iron. Copper and iron react with chlorine which in turn would result in production of various colors that may result producing stain. The stain can be found in your liner plaster or on the wall of your fiberglass pool. Therefore, it is important to eliminate metals in your pool by using filtration system. Filters are proven to be effective in lessening the amount of metals in your pool water.
